Bandai is a Japanese toy manufacturer founded on July 5, 1950, by Naoharu Yamashina in Taito, Tokyo, spun off from a Kanazawa textile wholesaler. The name comes from the Chinese phrase bandai fueki, meaning eternally unchanging. The company started with metal toys and rubber swimming rings, was renamed Bandai Co., Ltd. in 1961, and broke through with action figures tied to the Astro Boy anime. The catalog now covers Gundam plastic models, Power Rangers, Ultraman, Dragon Ball, Tamagotchi (launched 1996), and Digimon. Bandai merged with Namco in 2005 to form Bandai Namco Holdings. Supreme collaborated with Bandai on a Tamagotchi virtual pet in three camo colorways.
