Coppertone is an American sun care brand founded in 1944 by pharmacist and former Air Force pilot Benjamin Green in Miami Beach, Florida. Green first developed a red petroleum-based sun protectant called Red Vet Pet to shield World War II servicemen from sunburn, then refined the formula with cocoa butter and coconut oil after the war and began marketing it as Coppertone around 1946. The Little Miss Coppertone illustration, created by artist Joyce Ballantyne, debuted in 1959 and remains the brand's mascot. By 1958 it was the largest-selling sun care brand in the world. Supreme's collaboration applied its graphics to the brand's packaging.
