Damien Hirst is a British contemporary artist born in 1965 in Bristol, England, and one of the most prominent members of the Young British Artists (YBAs) group that rose to fame in the late 1980s. He is best known for his works exploring themes of death and mortality, including The Physical Impossibility of Death in the Mind of Someone Living (1991), a tiger shark preserved in formaldehyde, and his spot paintings and spin paintings series.
