Master Lock is an American padlock manufacturer founded in 1921 by locksmith and Russian Jewish immigrant Harry Soref in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, with two outside backers. Soref patented a laminated steel padlock body in 1924, stacking thin steel plates into a stronger, cheaper case inspired by bank vault doors and battleship armor. He held over 80 patents at his death. The company shipped 147,600 padlocks to New York City Prohibition agents in February 1928, an early breakthrough order. Master Lock is now headquartered in Oak Creek, Wisconsin and owned by Fortune Brands Innovations. Supreme has collaborated with Master Lock on co-branded combination padlocks.
