Riddell is an American football-equipment manufacturer founded in 1927 by John T. Riddell in Chicago, Illinois. Riddell, a former Evanston high school coach, first patented the removable screw-in cleat in 1922, then invented the plastic-shell football helmet in 1939 and the plastic suspension helmet used by US troops in World War II. The company has supplied helmets to nearly every NFL team since the mid-1970s and is the league's official on-field helmet through its current contract. Production runs out of Elyria, Ohio, and North Ridgeville. Supreme has collaborated with Riddell on co-branded mini and full-size football helmets.
