Skittles is a British fruit-flavored candy introduced in 1971 by a UK distributor for Mars, Incorporated. The lentil-shaped sugar shell candies were first imported to the United States in 1974, the same year Mars secured the U.S. trademark, and domestic production began in 1982. The brand is now owned by Mars Wrigley, the confectionery division of Mars headquartered in Chicago, which absorbed Skittles after Mars acquired the Wm. Wrigley Jr. Company in 2008. The Original mix carries strawberry, orange, lemon, green apple, and grape flavors, marketed under the slogan Taste the Rainbow.
