SMEG is an Italian appliance manufacturer founded in 1948 by Vittorio Bertazzoni in Guastalla, Reggio Emilia. The name is an acronym for Smalterie Metallurgiche Emiliane Guastalla, reflecting its origins as a metal-enamelling works. The company produced one of the first gas cookers with automatic ignition and an oven safety valve in the late 1950s, and in 1970 launched the world's first 60-centimeter, 14-place-setting dishwasher. The 1997 FAB refrigerator, with its 1950s curves and pastel finishes, became a design fixture. SMEG remains family-owned by the Bertazzonis. Supreme has collaborated with SMEG on a co-branded FAB refrigerator.
