Supreme vs. Original

Supreme version

Original — De Martini Globe Canvas Co.
3602 Original Messenger Large
About the original
De Martini Globe Canvas Company has made cotton-duck bicycle messenger bags by hand in New York since the 1950s; the 3602 is the original courier pattern worn by NYC bike messengers from the 1970s onward and is still made to order in the USA. The bag is an 18 oz cotton-duck messenger built on the 3602 pattern with industrial vinyl lining, all-metal hardware, a hook-and-loop flap closure with two web compression straps, and a detachable shoulder strap. The Supreme version is printed across the body and flap with spray-painted artwork by the late New York graffiti writer and Afrofuturist artist Rammellzee, with a Supreme box logo patch and the De Martini Globe Canvas Co. globe patch on the front. Released June 2020 at $148.
About De Martini Globe Canvas Co.
De Martini Globe Canvas Co. is an American canvas goods manufacturer founded in 1947 by Frank De Martini in lower Manhattan, New York. After working as a sail maker at the Brooklyn Naval Yard during World War II, De Martini opened a sail repair shop on Mott Street that pivoted to bags, aprons, covers, and awnings for clients including the New York phone companies and the New York Subway Advertising Co. The bag De Martini built for telephone linemen in the 1950s, adapted in 1965 for bicycle messengers, became the prototype for the modern messenger-bag silhouette. The shop is still cutting from the original patterns. Supreme has collaborated with De Martini Globe Canvas Co. on a messenger bag.
