About the original
The Nike Gato was introduced in 2010 as part of Nike's Nike5 futsal line, built for sala — the five-a-side indoor game played on hardwood — with a low-profile indoor sole and Lunarlon cushioning. Skaters adopted it for its flat gum outsole, thin profile, and minimal heel, and Nike SB formally released the silhouette in 2013 with reinforced suede toe panels for ollie wear.
