About the original

The Yohji Yamamoto Pour Homme Wool Gabardine Suit is a tailored two-piece in wool gabardine, a tightly woven worsted-wool twill with a firm, fluid drape. Pour Homme is the menswear line the Japanese designer launched in 1984, three years after his 1981 Paris debut; its tailoring is built around volume and the color black. Born in Tokyo in 1943, Yamamoto is among the designers whose unstructured suits reshaped 1980s and 1990s menswear away from fitted power suiting. A Pour Homme wool suit retails around $2,840. Supreme priced its collab at $898 — one of the rare cases where the box logo version cost less than the original, not more.

About Yohji Yamamoto

Yohji Yamamoto is a Japanese fashion designer born in Tokyo in 1943 and trained at Bunka Fashion College. He launched his women's label Y's in 1977 and showed his first Paris collection under his own name in 1981 alongside Rei Kawakubo. The debut introduced deconstructed, predominantly black tailoring to European runways. Yamamoto founded Y-3 with Adidas in 2002, one of the first sustained sportswear-luxury partnerships, and continues to design his main line, Y's, and Pour Homme collections. His work is held in the collections of the Met and the V&A. Supreme collaborated with Yohji Yamamoto on outerwear and tailoring.
