Murano is not a brand but a glassmaking tradition centered on the island of Murano in the Venetian Lagoon, Italy. Venice consolidated its glass furnaces on Murano by law in 1291 to contain fire risk and protect trade secrets, and the island became Europe's leading luxury glass center through the Renaissance. Murano artisans developed cristallo (a near-transparent soda-lime glass), lattimo (opaque white milk glass), aventurine, and millefiori techniques still used today. Production remains concentrated in family-run furnaces such as Venini, Barovier & Toso, and Seguso, all tracing lineage back centuries. Supreme has commissioned Murano-made glass objects, including hand-blown ashtrays produced on the island.
