Tamiya is a Japanese model-kit manufacturer founded in 1946 by Yoshio Tamiya in Shizuoka City as Tamiya Shoji & Co., originally a sawmill and lumber supplier. The company began producing wooden ship and aircraft models in 1947 and shifted entirely to model-making by 1953. Its first plastic kit, a 1/800 Yamato battleship, launched in 1959. Tamiya is known for 1/35 scale military models, 1/24 scale cars, the Mini 4WD line, and radio-control buggies including the 1979 Rough Rider. Shizuoka remains the home of Japan's plastic-model industry. Supreme has collaborated with Tamiya on co-branded RC vehicles and accessories.
