About the original
The Schott A-2 is the leather flight jacket the U.S. Army Air Corps standardized in 1931, and Schott NYC — founded in 1913 by brothers Irving and Jack Schott, the company that put the first zipper on a leather jacket in 1928 — was one of the original wartime contractors. Schott still builds the A-2 as the A2SM in naked cowhide: snap-flap chest pockets, a shirt-style collar, and knit cuffs and hem. Supreme's SS18 collab kept that silhouette but rendered it in suede, a material Schott's standard A-2 doesn't offer. It also undercut the original: Supreme priced the suede A-2 at $638, below the $735 leather A2SM it's based on. On this one, the box logo was the cheaper option.
About Schott NYC
Schott NYC is an American outerwear manufacturer founded in 1913 by brothers Irving and Jack Schott on Manhattan's Lower East Side, originally making fur-lined raincoats sold door-to-door. In 1928 Irving Schott designed the Perfecto, the first leather jacket built with a zipper, selling the original at a Long Island Harley-Davidson distributor for $5.50. The off-center asymmetric zip became the template for the genre, worn by Marlon Brando in The Wild One and later by the Ramones and the Sex Pistols.
