About the original
The Wham-O Pro Classic is the 130-gram, roughly 10-inch injection-molded flying disc that descends directly from the original Frisbee — the disc Wham-O licensed from inventor Fred Morrison's "Pluto Platter" in 1957 and renamed Frisbee in 1958 after the Frisbie Pie Company tins Yale students threw. Wham-O, founded in 1948 in South Pasadena, California by Rich Knerr and Spud Melin, still makes the Pro Classic as a mid-weight U-Flex disc. Supreme's SS16 version prints a purple monkey graphic and "You Still Suck" arced around a standard white Pro Classic. The disc underneath is the same one that sells for about fifteen dollars — box logo, monkeys, and all.
About Wham-O
Wham-O is an American toy company founded in 1948 by Arthur "Spud" Melin and Richard Knerr in San Gabriel, California. The company began selling a slingshot and expanded into novelty products that defined midcentury American play: the Frisbee flying disc (licensed from Fred Morrison in 1957), the Hula Hoop (1958), the Super Ball (1965), the Slip 'N Slide (1961), and the Hacky Sack. Wham-O has been sold several times since the 1980s and continues to manufacture and license its original product lines.
