Pyrex is an American glassware brand introduced in 1915 by Corning Glass Works in Corning, New York. The material was originally developed as borosilicate laboratory glass, then adapted for kitchen use after Bessie Littleton, the wife of a Corning scientist, baked a cake in a sawed-off battery jar. Pyrex bakeware, mixing bowls, and measuring cups became standard in American kitchens, and the brand is now owned by Instant Brands. U.S.-market Pyrex switched to tempered soda-lime glass in the 1990s, while borosilicate remains in the European line. Supreme released co-branded Pyrex measuring cups and mixing bowls.
