Supreme x Anonima Castelli Plia Chair
Supreme vs. Original

About the original
The Plia folding chair was designed by Giancarlo Piretti for Anonima Castelli in 1967, using a three-disc hinge that lets the chair collapse to a 2-inch flat profile. It has a chrome-plated steel tube frame with a transparent Cellidor (polycarbonate) seat and back, and has been in the permanent design collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York since the early 1970s. The SS22 Supreme version keeps the Made-in-Italy Anonima Castelli construction and adds printed Supreme logos to the frame; it released March 31, 2022 at $348, versus roughly $350 for the standard Plia.
About Anonima Castelli
Anonima Castelli is an Italian furniture manufacturer founded in 1877 in Bologna by Ettore Castelli as a cabinetry workshop, and formally incorporated under the Anonima Castelli name in 1939. The company is known for designs by Giancarlo Piretti, including the Plia folding chair, presented in 1969, which uses a three-disc pivot to fold the steel-and-polypropylene frame flat. The Plia has sold over seven million units, sits in the MoMA collection, and is still in production. Castelli also showed at MoMA's 1972 "Italy: The New Domestic Landscape" exhibition. Supreme collaborated with Anonima Castelli on a branded edition of the Plia folding chair.
