About the original

Daiwa Corporation was founded in 1958 in Tokyo by Masaichi Matsui and is one of the world's largest manufacturers of fishing tackle, alongside Shimano. The DV1 is a telescoping spinning combo: an 8-foot-6-inch graphite-composite rod that collapses to 26 inches for transit, paired with a purpose-built 3000-size spinning reel with a 5.3:1 gear ratio and pre-spooled with 10-pound monofilament line. The bundle ships in a fitted molded travel case sized for airline carry-on. The standard DV1 retails for around $200 and is marketed at travelers and beginners. The SS2023 Supreme version is the standard white DV1 combo with a Supreme logo on the reel cover; released May 4, 2023 at $398.

About Daiwa

Daiwa is a Japanese fishing tackle manufacturer founded in 1958 by Yoshio Matsui in Tokyo, with roots in his Matsui Manufacturing workshop established in 1955. The company produced Japan's first domestic spinning reel and introduced the open-faced spinning reel design in 1965. Now operating under parent company Globeride following a 2009 reorganization, Daiwa makes spinning and baitcasting reels, rods, and tackle, including the flagship EXIST LT and Saltiga lines. Higher-end reels are still assembled in Japan. The brand is one of two dominant names in global angling alongside Shimano. Supreme has collaborated with Daiwa on co-branded fishing rods, reels, and tackle bags.
