About the original

The Dardevle is a spoon-shaped fishing lure invented by Lou Eppinger in Detroit, Michigan in 1906, and still manufactured by Eppinger Manufacturing in Dearborn from the same forged-brass tooling. Originally called the Osprey, the lure was renamed Dare Devle in 1918 in honor of the U.S. Marines' nickname at the Battle of Belleau Wood. The standard #2 size weighs 3/4 oz and measures 2-7/8 inches, with a red-and-white striped face over a nickel back that produces the wobble-and-flash action the lure is known for. Eppinger has printed a devil logo on the spoons since after World War II. The Supreme SS2019 version was made in two colorways, Rainbow Trout and Fire Tiger, with the Supreme logo printed on the face.

About Eppinger

Eppinger is an American fishing-tackle manufacturer founded in 1906 by Lou Eppinger in Detroit, Michigan, originally as a taxidermy studio. Eppinger hand-hammered the first Dardevle spoon from a sheet of metal thinner in the middle and thicker at the edges, producing the wobbling action that defined the design. The lure was renamed in 1918 from Osprey to Dardevle, honoring the 4th Marine Brigade nicknamed Devil Dogs in World War I. Dardevles were issued in U.S. military aviation survival kits during World War II. The company moved to Dearborn in 1959 and remains family-owned, producing 750,000 lures annually. Supreme collaborated with Eppinger on Dardevle spoons.
