56-6106 Double Ressort Sunglasses
About the original
The Jean Paul Gaultier 56-6106 Double Ressort is a round-frame metal sunglass handmade in France, featuring a "Gaultier"-engraved bridge, dual spring-loaded temples (the "double ressort" detail the model is named for), and Category 3 UV-protective anti-reflective glass lenses. The frames use a metal alloy chassis with Mazzucchelli acetate temple tips, a century-old Italian acetate supplier that serves most of the luxury eyewear industry. Gaultier founded his Paris couture house in 1976 and launched the eyewear line in the 1990s. The SS2019 Supreme collab retailed at $388, below the $463 standard retail price.
About Jean Paul Gaultier
Jean Paul Gaultier is a French fashion designer born in 1952 in Arcueil who founded his eponymous label in 1976 after stints at Pierre Cardin and Jean Patou. Known as the enfant terrible of French fashion, Gaultier is recognized for his corsetry-inspired designs, sailor stripes, and gender-fluid casting long before it became an industry norm. His Le Male fragrance, launched in 1995, became one of the best-selling men's fragrances in the world and is identified by its pressed-tin torso bottle modeled on a male mannequin. Supreme has collaborated with Jean Paul Gaultier on co-branded apparel and accessories drawing on the house's archive prints and silhouettes.
