Jordan Brand was established in 1984 as a division of Nike to market Michael Jordan's signature basketball line following his endorsement deal as a rookie for the Chicago Bulls; the Jumpman logo — derived from a 1984 Life magazine photo shot by Jacobus Rentmeester — was adopted in 1988 and became the brand's standalone identifier.
