Malle Courrier 90 Monogram Trunk

About the original

The Louis Vuitton Malle Courrier 90 is a 90-centimeter hard-sided travel trunk handcrafted at Louis Vuitton's historic Asnieres workshop on the outskirts of Paris, built from a poplar-wood frame wrapped in coated monogram canvas, lozine trim, brass lock and corner hardware, and the house's signature Tumbler locks. The techniques are essentially unchanged since Louis Vuitton opened his first trunkmaking shop on Rue Neuve des Capucines in 1854 and introduced the flat-top waterproof trunk in 1858. The SS17 Supreme collab printed the box logo across the monogram canvas in red, one of the rare instances of Vuitton licensing its signature pattern to an outside label. It retailed at approximately $68,500, with resale reaching $150,000.

About Louis Vuitton

Louis Vuitton is a French luxury trunk and leather goods house founded in 1854 by Louis Vuitton in Paris. Vuitton trained for seventeen years as an apprentice packer before opening his first store on Rue Neuve-des-Capucines. In 1858 he introduced the flat-topped trunk in waterproof Trianon canvas, designed to stack on trains and ocean liners. His son Georges introduced the Monogram canvas in 1896 to combat counterfeits, combining the LV initials with quatrefoils drawn from Japonisme and neo-Gothic ornament. The house now anchors LVMH. Supreme and Louis Vuitton released a co-branded collection in 2017 covering bags, leather goods, and apparel.
