momoko DOLL

About the original

momoko DOLL was created in 2001 as a side project by PetWORKs, a Japanese software firm, under art director Namie Manabe — better known at the time for directing the PostPet mail software. In 2004 production was handed to Tokyo doll maker Sekiguchi, which relaunched momoko in 2005 as a 1/6 scale (27cm) fashion doll on an articulated body with rotating elbows, bending knees, and flexing wrists. The FW22 Supreme collab is a Sekiguchi-produced momoko dressed in a silver GORE-TEX 700-fill parka, boxed in a red display window printed with "1:6 scale real fashion doll." She ships with a miniature Supreme wardrobe — box-logo hoodie, crewneck, beanie, sweatpants, two jeans, 5-panel, 10-eye boots, sneakers, and canvas backpack — released at $298 in the U.S. and Japan only.

About Sekiguchi

Sekiguchi is a Japanese toy manufacturer founded in 1918 by Koichi Sekiguchi in Tokyo, originally producing collectible dolls and soft toys. In 1974, designer Yoshiharu Washino created Monchhichi, a thumb-sucking plush monkey wearing a removable bib, as a successor to Sekiguchi's earlier Kuta Kuta Monkey. Exports began to West Germany and Austria in 1975, and the doll became a household object in German-speaking Europe through the 1980s. Mattel held the North American license starting in 1980. Sekiguchi still produces Monchhichi at its factories in Japan and continues to issue seasonal editions. Supreme has collaborated with Sekiguchi on co-branded Monchhichi plush figures.
