About the original

The MSR Stake Hammer is an 11-ounce camp hammer with a cast stainless-steel head designed specifically for driving and pulling tent stakes, with a notched claw sized to extract J-shaped and Y-beam aluminum pegs and an integrated bottle opener in the handle. The tool is built for car-camping, basecamp, and expedition use in hard or frozen ground where hand-pressure staking fails. MSR (Mountain Safety Research) was founded in Seattle in 1969 by mountaineer Larry Penberthy and is now part of Cascade Designs, which still engineers MSR products out of Seattle. The SS23 Supreme version is the standard MSR Stake Hammer with a co-branded stainless head.

About MSR

MSR, or Mountain Safety Research, is an American outdoor equipment manufacturer founded in 1969 by Seattle engineer and mountaineer Larry Penberthy in Seattle, Washington. Penberthy started the company to independently test and improve climbing safety gear, publishing critical newsletters on carabiners, ice axes, and helmets. MSR developed the Model 9 white-gas stove in 1973 and aluminum-shafted ice axes that replaced wooden designs. REI bought the company in 1981, and Cascade Designs acquired it in August 2001. The line now covers stoves, water filters, tents, and snowshoes. Supreme has collaborated with MSR on co-branded outdoor gear.
