About Smith Optics
Smith Optics is an American eyewear manufacturer founded in 1965 by Dr. Bob Smith in Sun Valley, Idaho. An orthodontist and skier, Smith built the first sealed thermal-lens ski goggle with breathable vent foam at his kitchen table in Utah using dental tools, foam, and glue, and traded early pairs for lift tickets at Alta. By 1970 the company was the largest ski goggle manufacturer in the United States.
