About the original

Steiff is the German plush manufacturer founded by Margarete Steiff in Giengen an der Brenz in 1880; her nephew Richard Steiff designed the jointed mohair bear with movable limbs in 1902, creating the first teddy bear. Every Steiff piece is hand-finished at the Giengen factory and marked with the brass Knopf im Ohr (Button in Ear) tag, a trademark registered in 1904 and unchanged since. The Classic Teddy uses mohair plush, a stuffed body, glass eyes, and five-point jointing. The FW22 Supreme version is a standard Steiff bear dressed in a miniature box logo outfit, continuing a partnership begun with the FW18 Elmar bear; it retailed for $178, below the $230 standard for comparable Steiff bears.

About Steiff

Steiff is a German plush toy manufacturer founded in 1880 by Margarete Steiff in Giengen, Württemberg. Steiff began making fabric elephant pincushions before her nephew Richard introduced a jointed mohair bear at the 1903 Leipzig Toy Fair, the first commercial teddy bear, named after Theodore Roosevelt. The company produced one million bears by 1907 and introduced the Knopf im Ohr (Button in Ear) trademark in 1904 to deter counterfeits. Steiff still manufactures in Giengen and remains the reference standard for collectible plush. Supreme has collaborated with Steiff on box-logo hooded teddy bears in heather grey and black, and an E.T. plush figure for SS25.
