The Rhode Island Novelty 9-inch Stainless Steel Switch-Blade Folding Pocket Comb is a spring-loaded novelty comb shaped to mimic a switchblade knife — press the button on the housing and the comb deploys with a lock and unlock safety switch. Switchblade combs have been a novelty staple since the 1950s, associated with greaser culture and the post-war teenage aesthetic that turned the real switchblade into a symbol of rebellion. Rhode Island Novelty has operated as a wholesale novelty and party-goods distributor out of Cumberland, Rhode Island since 1966 and produces the standard version for around $5. The FW2010 Supreme version is the same comb in red plastic with a printed box logo on the housing.
