Yawataya Isogoro Spices (Set of 3)
About the original
Yawataya Isogoro is a shichimi togarashi maker founded in 1736 by the merchant Kan'emon, who began selling seven-spice chili near the gates of Zenko-ji Temple in Nagano. It is counted among the three oldest shichimi producers in Japan, alongside Kyoto's Shichimiya Honpo and Tokyo's Yagenbori. The seven-ingredient blend uses red chili, sansho pepper, hemp seed, ginger, sesame, nori, and dried mandarin peel; the set of three pairs their standard shichimi with yuzu and sansho variants, all blended at the original shop and packed in red-tin canisters. Supreme's SS2024 version uses the same Nagano-made tins with a Supreme logo printed on the label.
About Yawataya Isogoro
Yawataya Isogoro is a Japanese spice company founded in 1736 by Kan'emon, who began selling shichimi togarashi at the gates of Zenkoji Temple in Nagano. The Nishiyama region around the shop produced six of the seven blend ingredients, with dried mandarin peel carried in from Kamigata. The current shichimi recipe combines red chili, sansho pepper, hemp seed, sesame, perilla, ginger, and tangerine peel. Yawataya Isogoro is one of the three oldest shichimi houses in Japan, alongside Tokyo's Yagenbori and Kyoto's Shichimiya. Supreme has collaborated with Yawataya Isogoro on a co-branded three-tin spice set.
